Working with Walter Gretzky

Last week I had the opportunity to work on Walter Gretzky for a commercial pilot. Walter Gretzky is the father of NHL legend Wayne Gretzky. Walter was a dream client with his easygoing personality, vast knowledge, and amazing sense of humor. It was an absolute pleasure to work with him.

Nude Detox Review

While shopping at my local Sephora, I came across some facial cleansers. I asked  a beauty adviser about which one she would recommend and she directed me to Nude Detox. The way she was talking about this product made it seem as if it was the best thing out there, so she sold me in to purchasing it. Mind you, this product comes up to almost $50.00 CDN, and I am VERY thankful that I am able to return it. I have only tried it once before bed and it felt alright on my skin while washing my face, but when I woke up the next morning I had a nasty rash on my face. I am not one for writing nasty reviews about products but I felt the need to warn other people about it. I do NOT recommend this product what so ever. My skin is not too sensitive but Nude Detox gave me a terrible skin reaction that took a few days to settle down.

I'm terrible at blogging!

Okay okay don't kill me I know it has been quite some time since my last post, but I've been busy! and I also hate blogging. Alright so HATE is a really strong word, let us just blame my laziness which is the number one culprit in this whole situation. It is often extremely difficult for me to form proper sentences to write on my blog. I am either very passionate about something, or completely aloof. There is no middle ground to my human which is a crappy situation because I do not get motivated to write about silly products or things that have been reviewed a bajillion times already all over the world wide web.

I just need a little kick in the butt every now and then. I promise I will make more of an effort. Perhaps even get arse in to gear and start making videos also. So much to do So much to do!

Thanks for sticking around lovelies. <3

Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette

I have had the Kat Von D Contour Palette for over two weeks now and I believe enough time has passed that it is suitable for me to write an honest review about this product. While looking for a contour palette with cream bronzers and highlighters, I  came across the Shade + Light Palette. The product itself is not cream but promises to be very blendable and silky at contact with the skin. The Palette comes with 6 different matte powders in three dark and 3 light.

The dark shades are: Sombre, Shadowplay, and Subconscious. The light shades are: Lucid, Lyric, and Levitation. All darker shades shades are approximately 0.16 oz and the lighter powders are 0.08 oz.

I did not get the applicator brush that is supposed to be used with the powders but I get an illustrated  card tutorial, illustrated by Kat, that shows step by steps on how to:
  • Define cheekbones
  • Slim your face
  • Shape your nose

I must say I absolutely LOVE this palette. It does what its supposed to do. The powders are smooth on the skin and do not make me look cakey or dry, and they blend very well. The only thing that I did not like about the palette is that the powder is so light that at the stroke of a brush, it flies everywhere and to me that's a waste of product. The price for this is around $55.00 Canadian, which is an amazing price for all the shades you get.

The Image Battle

The night before I created this makeup, I was having a severe anxiety attack that was triggered by body image. I want to come out and openly speak about my battle with myself to perhaps help out someone else that might be going through similar situations. While my heart was racing and feeling like it was trying to escape my chest, this image started forming in my mind.

It started out with the cracks of self torture, the release of emotions in the blood pumping through our veins. It continued with the constant punches to ourselves because we are unhappy with what we see and we compare ourselves to others; wishing and hoping that we could change certain things of our physical appearance (hence the surgical lines and bruises.)  And lastly, the tears of conflict and resignation that cascade down our eyes as we try to restrain and put away our fears.

We hear these things way too often: "You're too fat" "You're too skinny" "You're not curvy" "You have too many curves" "You are too short" "You are too tall" "You should eat less" "You should eat more" "You wear too much makeup" "You should wear makeup to look pretty" "You are not beautiful" "You are average" "You are a slut" "You are not worth it unless..." "You will never be loved" "You need a thigh gap to be pretty" "You are crazy" "You are stupid"

What others fail to realize is that, those words that we are usually told on a daily basis are just a thin layer to the battle with body image that way too many of us go through. What hurts the most are not the words that others say, but what we say to ourselves. The roots that we plant withing ourselves are the ones that create the toughest conflict with the reflection in our mirror.

"I will never be that skinny" "I will never be that curvy" "I will never look like her/him" "I will never be loved" "I'm too old" "what is the point in living?" "Maybe if I throw up..." "Maybe if I don't eat" "Maybe just one more cut" "Maybe just one more drink"

I can not tell you a cure to this battle, because I am still going through some of these things myself. What I can tell you is that you need to find what you are passionate about, close your eyes, and just follow your heart. The mind makes us think too much about what can go wrong, and for someone with anxiety and or depression, that can be a block to follow our dreams. If you fear following your dreams, most of the time it means you should follow it. Failure is scary, but the joy that comes with doing what we love conquers the battle between fear and passion.

Next time you are having an anxiety attack, release the energy through art, music, nature, cooking, or whatever else you truly enjoy. We only have this one life, this one body, and this one earth. Let us make the best of it and live our lives to our full potential. Let go of the fear, and the self hate, and surround yourself with love, acceptance, and passion. You are beautiful in your own way and you should never forget that. Take flight my little swans <3

I love you to the moon and back.

Wigs, Wigs, Wigs!

We all know the damaging effects that come with often dying your hair. I mean - I've had gone through quite the nightmares in the past, to the point where my hair was falling out at an alarming rate. So recently I have gotten in to cosplaying and discovered some stores that sell great quality synthetic wigs for affordable prices.

A lot of my followers on Instagram always comment or DM me regarding my frequent hair transformations, and while talking to a good friend of mine, Shelby, she brought up a good point about making a blog post about where I buy my wigs.

I purchase my synthetic wigs from quite a few Ebay stores, but the one that I buy from often is called loool.more. They are based in China and ship world wide, often having the option of free shipping.

The reason why I love their wigs is because they are thicker than most synthetic wigs I have purchased before. The quality of the pieces I have bought have been spectacular. They come with an adjustable strap on the wig cap that lets you adjust the sizing of your head. One of the things I have always had trouble with in the past is sizing, and I can say having a lot of my own natural hair now, these wigs fit quite well. I wouldn't say they fit 100%, but that is just a problem I have always come across. Unless I get a wig specially made to my size, I will often run in to the issue of them not fitting properly.

The shipping for their products varies, but then again the shipping is almost always free, if not - not more than $10.00 USD which is great! The seller almost always adds a hair net for use under the wigs, and a little something special thanking their clients for their business, which is a nice little touch.

My experience with their customer service has been pleasant so far, and I have not run in to any issues.

So if you are looking for a cheap way to change up your look, or you are just in to cosplaying and having fun, I suggest you check out their ebay store.

Thanks again for reading my lovelies and have an amazing day <3

Light up your life!

Lets start off my first post for Lace and Lipstik by chatting about one of my favorite "glam it up" products, highlighters!

It's that time of the years were we are all going to some sort of Holiday event(or many) and we want to glam up our makeup routine. When I think of the Holidays, I think of all things glitzy and luminous, so why not translate that on to our skin?

One of my favorite highlighters at the moment are by a brand called Artist Couture which was created by celebrity makeup artist Angel Merino.  Angel is well known on Instagram as @mac_daddyy

These are a loose powder highlighter which is great for me because I can just feather it on with a fan brush after I have applied the rest of my makeup. They wont cause anything else on my face to smear or come off, which I find happens often with liquid or cream highlighters. The shimmer payoff of these Diamond Glow Powders are absolutely stunning!

In a full size container you get about 6gm of product, which is a great size because you do not need a lot of this to look flawless.

The colours that come in the line are Yasss!, Mermaid Fantasy, Supernova, Conceited, and Gold Digger. On the website, you have the options of buying the complete set (full size or travel) or you can buy them separately. They are currently out of stock for most except for the travel size which is an amazing deal to get because they are truly a staple on every makeup junkies collection. If you would like to check the website out, head over to http://www.artistcouture.com/
